Your licence
Giftaro is sold through our reseller, Freemius. Freemius emails your licence key and download, and looks after billing. This page shows where to find each one and how to use your key in WordPress.
1. Your key and download
Right after you buy, Freemius emails you a receipt with your licence key and a link to download the plugin.
Both are also in the Freemius Customer Portal. Sign in with the email address you bought with.
Can’t find the email? Check your spam folder, or email hello@giftaro.co from the address you bought with.
2. Activating your shop
A licence gives a site plugin updates and support. Gift cards, the register, refunds, eGifts and the staff portal work whatever the licence says, so a missing or lapsed licence never stops a customer spending their balance.
- Install GiftaroUpload the zip under Plugins in WordPress and activate it next to WooCommerce.
- Enter your licence keyIn WordPress, open Gift Cards → Licence, paste your key and press Activate License. Until you do, the site gets no updates. Everything else works.
- Manage it from Gift Cards → AccountOnce the licence is active, the Account screen shows your plan and licence key. Change the key or deactivate the licence on that site there. Gift Cards → Settings shows the licence status and how many sites are in use.
Only live shops use your plan’s sites. Staging copies on the addresses below do not, as the next section explains.
3. Staging and development sites
Activating your key on a staging or development site is free. On the addresses below it never uses one of your plan’s sites, and you can activate as many as you need.
Freemius decides this from the site’s address. These count as staging or development:
- Any address that contains localhost or 127.0.0.1.
- Addresses that begin with local., dev., test. or stage., such as dev.yourshop.com.
- Addresses that begin with staging, such as staging.yourshop.com, staging2.yourshop.com or staging-yourshop.com.
- Addresses that end in .dev, .test, .staging, .local, .example or .invalid.
- Staging and temporary addresses from hosts and local tools, ending in: myftpupload.com, ngrok.io, wpsandbox.pro, wpengine.com (staging.wpengine.com and dev.wpengine.com included), wpenginepowered.com, cloudwaysapps.com, dev.cc, mystagingwebsite.com, tempurl.host, wpmudev.host, websitepro-staging.com, websitepro.hosting, instawp.co, instawp.link, instawp.xyz, -dev.10web.site and -dev.10web.cloud.
- Pantheon addresses on pantheonsite.io that begin with test- or dev-.
- Kinsta addresses on kinsta.com or kinsta.cloud that begin with stg-, staging- or env-.
Every other address is a live site and uses one of your plan’s sites. For example, demo.yourshop.com, sandbox.yourshop.com, preview.yourshop.com, qa.yourshop.com and www.staging.yourshop.com all count as live sites.
Is your staging copy on an address that is not listed? Email hello@giftaro.co from the address you bought with and tell us the staging address. We add a free site to your licence for it.
4. Moving to a new site
Your plan covers a set number of live sites at a time, and you can move the licence whenever you need to.
- Deactivate the old siteIn that site’s WordPress, open Gift Cards → Account and press Deactivate License. That frees its slot for another site, and the site’s gift cards are not affected.
- Activate the new siteInstall Giftaro there and activate the same key on Gift Cards → Licence.
Changing your shop’s address works the same way: deactivate the licence at the old address, then activate it again at the new one.
Old site already gone, or stuck? Email hello@giftaro.co from the address you bought with and tell us which site it was. We free the slot for you.
5. Billing and cancellation
Freemius is our reseller and takes every payment, so billing lives with them. In the Customer Portal you can:
- Download your invoices.
- Update your payment method.
- Cancel the yearly renewal.
Sign in with the email address you bought with.
Need more sites, for example moving from Single to Studio? Email hello@giftaro.co and we will change your plan.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep updates and support until the end of the year you paid for, and Giftaro keeps working after that.
6. Refunds
Your first purchase has a 30-day money-back guarantee. Email hello@giftaro.co from the address you bought with and say that you want a refund. Refunds are issued through Freemius to your original payment method. Renewals and billing disputes are covered on the refunds page.
